.uno Domain Registration

Godaddy has pulled a Rabbit out of the hat and overtaken all other domain registrars once again by allowing pre-registrations for 4 new TLDs including .uno, .luxury, .build and .menu.

I seriously don't know what to make of this. Because apart from .uno domains, the rest sound like cr$p to me. Maybe Godaddy will prove me wrong on this one. But who cares anyway.

I am definitely not going to waste my hard earned money registering .luxury domain names. In fact, the price at what you can register each of these 4 TLDs is $99 per domain.

Now, unless I am sorely mistaken, I can see from my last 60 odd domain registrations that I spent $80 on all of them. Had I registered a .uno domain then I would have spent close to $100 on the same. But by being sensible enough to register 60 dot coms I still have another $19 to spend. Just a comparison.

Anyway, I am sure that there are some manipulative souls at all these domain registrars and they will manage to sell a few Million domain names with these 4 lousy extensions within the next 10 months. This is almost a fact. It happened with .co and .me when they hit the online scene. And it will happen all over again with these lousy domain extensions.

Don't get me wrong. I am one of the most excited domain investors right now. I am happy to see that the web is changing from early 2014 and the sheer dominance of the dot com will be reduced a bit thanks to Millions of new domain names (and websites) with new extensions hitting the web for the first time since the internet opened up shop for the common man.

I love domain endings like .xyz, .blog, .nyc, and a few more. They make sense to register though at a reasonable price. But spending $99 or more on registering a single domain name with the extension .uno seems like you are either drunk, are a heavy gambler or simply love takings risks in the domaining world.

This is the first (somewhat) negative post I have written about the new TLDs and I am sure it won't be the last. But, on the brighter side, I am still excited to know about the better half of the new TLDs coming onto the web next year onwards. I am keeping my fingers crossed right now and praying for their success. Because if the new TLDs succeed in getting Millions of registrations then it opens up the domain market big time and that's actually good for all of us.
