“Why garlic oil when we can put garlic in our food easily?’ That was one question which came to my mind while researching on the subject .Garlic for me was a white bulb with a strong pungent smell which had a bad after taste and left a bad odor in mouth and the hands which peel it .The smell lasted real long and could embarrass anyone .I often wondered –“Why have it then?
But this research has opened my eyes ---- GARLIC has just not health benefits but has good curative and medicinal properties too! The oil extracted from it is has Allicin which is the heart and soul of the garlic. If there is no , Allicin Garlic or Garlic Oil will loose all its benefits too!
Today, garlic benefits can be obtained in the form of garlic oil benefits. Due to its benefits, garlic was considered so important, that it was used as a currency. Garlic oil benefits are found because of the many chemicals present in it if we start looking at it to be as a little more than a vegetable then it will be too costly for a common man to purchase.
The problem with fresh garlic is that it can cause indigestion and it has a pungent odor that lingers on the breath and skin and can be very offensive. These disagreeable effects of fresh garlic are due to allicin which is an oxidant released upon cutting or chewing the clove. The odorless garlic oil eliminates this problem altogether 2 to 4 grams of fresh, minced garlic can be eaten each day. However, when eaten raw, it can leave a distinct odor on the skin and breath; though it can cause heartburn, upset stomach and allergic reactions and cooking it doesn’t leave any nutrients intact...
The concentration of allicin in an intact clove of garlic is astonishingly small. In a whole clove of garlic, the allicin content is actually surprisingly low, and the health benefits if consumed just this way would be small This is because allicin is protected in the clove by cell walls. It is only after the cell walls are crushed or cut that garlic cloves release their allicin... Once allicin is released, many compounds are formed. These compounds are responsible for most of garlic’s health benefits. Allicin itself is highly unstable. In fact, allicin cannot be detected in the bloodstream or urine at any time after eating garlic.Allicin is also destroyed by stomach acid. Many commercial garlic products are enteric-coated. The tablets go through the stomach intact without dissolving. This delivers the garlic tablet to the small intestine, where the tablet dissolves and releases its allicin. From the small intestine, allicin’s many compounds are formed and then enter the bloodstream. This form of supplementation also avoids the development of garlic breath.
The recommended daily dose of garlic is around four thousand micrograms, an amount roughly equivalent to that found in 2-4 average sized cloves of garlic. Obviously, most people don’t want to eat garlic every day. The incidence of divorce may be much higher if they did. And so, particularly garlic oil, are a convenient dietary alternative. The preferential form of garlic supplement is garlic oil. Garlic oil is usually extracted of garlic combined with other vegetable oil. It can be stored for a long period of time, and is convenient in the sense that it can be taken orally, added to food and drink, or applied topically to treat infection.
Garlic oil is also absorbed faster through the tongue, rather than having to travel all the way through the digestive system in a protective coating, and so each dose of garlic oil versus say a garlic pill will retain more of the active ingredient, be more efficient, and get to work faster. Garlic oil is also available in capsule form which retains the potency of the oil without the taste or smell that some find unpleasant. Garlic oil ointment is rubbed into the skin where it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.
Garlic oil benefits are found because of the many chemicals present in it. Garlic oil is prepared in two ways. One way is to steam crush garlic and capture the oil that gets released as a result of the allicin breaking down into sulphides. To obtain about a gram of garlic oil, nearly one pound of garlic needs to be processed. The other way is to macerate garlic and keep it in incubation for about 24 hours in vegetable oil and remove the pieces of garlic from the vegetable oil after 24 hrs are over. Garlic macerate oil is rich in ajoene, having a natural antibiotic property and is especially useful in reducing the platelet aggregation.
